AISB Fall Experience

The AISB Fall Experience provides expanded support for 1st-semester American Indian/Indigenous freshmen students at The University of New Mexico-Main Campus and includes a three (3) credit hour FYEX 1110 seminar course in the fall semester designed to immerse students into college life. Personalized academic planning assistance, extensive scholarship search processes, financial aid guidance, leadership development, and the opportunity to further grow and succeed in a collaborative cohort setting with peers are additional components of the AISB Fall Experience.

Eligibility

  • 2025 High School Graduate
  • Admitted to UNM-Main Campus as a 1st-semester Freshman for Fall 2025
  • Minimum High School GPA of 2.75
  • Enrolled Member of a Federally Recognized Tribe
    • A copy of your Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or Proof of Tribal Enrollment is required
  • Completed Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for 2025-2026
  • Completed New Student Orientation (nso.unm.edu)

AISB Fall Experience Expectations

  • Participants must attend & complete a mandatory individual Pre-Program Meeting by Friday, August 1, 2025.
    • Discuss financial aid & scholarships, estimated cost of attendance, and campus life with AISS Staff.
  • Registered & completed an NSO Session.
  • Commit to the entire 16-week AISB Fall Experience (August 18 to December 13, 2025).
  • Complete a minimum of four (4) Fall 2025 semester progress check-in sessions held during Week 4, Week 7, Week 11, and Week 16.
  • Maintain minimum 2.5 semester & cumulative GPA and complete at least 15 credit hours for Fall 2025 and 15 new credit hours for Spring 2026.
  • Complete & submit the 2026-2027 FAFSA – deadline will be provided in the course syllabus.
  • Attend & complete all weekly study hour sessions at AISS.
  • Engage in AISS student support programming.
